The National Service Scheme (NSS) and Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram took a significant step toward social responsibility by organising an impactful awareness programme on drug abuse prevention. The event aimed to sensitise the youth about the dangers of drug addiction and promote a healthy, drug-free society.

The session featured Dr. Ashok Kumar, a distinguished officer from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Haryana, as the chief guest and keynote speaker. Addressing the students, Dr. Kumar emphasised the “critical need to resist drug abuse and work collectively toward a prosperous Haryana and a drug-free India”. His inspiring talk shed light on the severe consequences of substance abuse, both on an individual level and for society at large.

One of the highlights of the event was the oath-taking ceremony led by Dr. Kumar, where students and faculty pledged to stay away from drugs and actively contribute to the nation’s fight against addiction. The session encouraged young minds to take responsibility for spreading awareness and supporting rehabilitation efforts.

Dr. Kumar also elaborated on the Government of India’s initiatives under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign) and highlighted the stringent measures taken to curb drug trafficking and rehabilitate affected individuals. He urged students to serve as ambassadors of this movement by educating others about the perils of addiction and advocating for a healthier lifestyle.

The interactive session allowed students to share their thoughts and concerns on the issue, fostering meaningful discussions about the role of youth in eradicating drug abuse. Their enthusiasm and commitment were evident as they engaged with Dr. Kumar, gaining a deeper understanding of the subject.

Coordinated by the NSS and YRC units, the program witnessed active participation from students and faculty members. Dr. Vijay Kumar, NSS and YRC Coordinator, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ashok Kumar for his insightful session and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to instilling social awareness and responsibility among its students.

The event concluded with a strong message about the power of education and awareness in combating the drug menace. It reinforced the importance of collective action, where individuals, institutions, and the government work hand in hand to create a safer, healthier future.

Apeejay Stya University remains committed to such initiatives, recognising the crucial role that educational institutions play in shaping a responsible and conscientious generation. By encouraging students to actively engage in social causes, the university continues to nurture future leaders dedicated to making a positive impact on society.
