At what age did your poetry journey begin?

When I was in class 1, I started learning new words and thought of writing a poem using my newfound vocabulary.

And what inspired you to write poems?

I was inspired by my surroundings and had a keen interest in putting my thoughts and creativity into words.

Now, tell us the thought behind your poem “My First Cycle.”

I am still very fond of my first cycle and have many cherished memories, like cycling with friends, racing, exchanging bikes, riding pillion, and doing some safe stunts. So, I thought, why not weave these memories into a poem?

And you did a fine job! So, who is your favorite poet?

My favorite poet is Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote the poem “My Shadow,” which I recently read in my English textbook. I found it interesting and funny.

Do you prefer rhyme or free verse?

I like to use rhyming words in my poems as they sound better.

Writing poems in the day or night?

I prefer writing during the daytime as I am more active and can think better.

How does your school help you write such lovely poems?

My English teacher is one of my favorite teachers. She explains topics very nicely and teaches us many new words, which gives me more ideas to write poems and essays.

How do you approach writing a poem? How much time does it take you to finish one?

I think of simple topics related to me, which helps me easily put my thoughts together. It takes about an hour to write the first draft, and then I take my parents’ help to correct any mistakes.

What’s the best thing about writing poetry for you?

I feel writing poems makes me more creative.
