Reimagining education with a workshop for the National Curriculum Framework

In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, professional development workshops play a crucial role in keeping educators aligned with contemporary pedagogical frameworks. They offer a platform for teachers to exchange ideas, learn from experts, and understand new policies — ensuring that classroom practices stay relevant, inclusive, and learner-centric.

Recently, Apeejay Svran Global School, 21-D, hosted a dynamic and enriching workshop centred around the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). Designed to deepen educators’ understanding of the NCF-SE and its alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the event brought together passionate educators to reflect on ways to foster holistic, inclusive, and competency-based education.

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome by Ms Purnima Vohra, Principal of the school, who emphasised the transformative power of education and how the NCF-SE empowers both teachers and learners by encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and the real-life application of knowledge. The event was ceremonially inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a soulful rendition of the Saraswati Vandana, invoking the blessings of the goddess of wisdom.

Dr Neha Sharma and Mr Sushil Kumar led the insightful session. Dr Sharma set the tone by stating that the workshop was about teaching and learning and co-creating knowledge. She detailed the structure and intent of NCF-SE, emphasising its potential to redefine curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment methods.

She encouraged collaborative engagement by forming seven subject-specific groups of teachers, each tasked with designing lesson plans based on NCF-SE principles. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity, peer learning, and a more profound understanding of how to apply theoretical knowledge in practical classroom settings.

Mr Kumar’s session was equally engaging and thought-provoking. He presented a powerful video highlighting the critical role of teachers in shaping student experiences. His discussion focused on key topics such as the drawbacks of rote learning, the distinctions between NEP 2020 and NCF-SE, the significance of competency-based education, and the foundational importance of early childhood care.

A particularly impactful activity involved educators drawing their vision of an ideal NCF-aligned classroom, showcasing ideas around inclusivity, flexibility, and active learner engagement.

The workshop concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired and better equipped to implement the NCF-SE in their teaching practice. It was a truly enriching experience that fostered collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to nurturing future-ready learners.
