Alumnus of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) Aman Chawla works in ICICI Bank as a Relationship Manager. His day at work is packed with various responsibilities and challenges. From managing third party activities to submitting monthly audits, his work is demanding indeed. Let us learn about how the management professional entered the industry and made his mark in such a big brand. Read edited excerpts:
What is expected from a relationship manager?
I have to manage the third party bandwidth of the bank. It is my job to ensure that every third party banking activity is in compliance with our financial regulations. I have to also make banking targets within the designated time and keep a check on monthly audit activities of the vendors.

Was joining the world of finance a conscious choice?
I always wanted to join the banking industry. In 2019, before the pandemic hit the world, ICICI Bank came to our college during the placement process. After some grueling 3-4 rounds of interview, I was fortunate enough to make it into the cut. I now have an experience of 2.5 years here and have seen some great days while keeping my learning curve always high.
What all changes have you noticed in yourself after working in such a big organisation?
I learnt to manage many new things in my life. The biggest learning was work-life balance. Also, I was open for a pan India placement and am currently placed away from my hometown. So, I have learnt essential life skills such as cooking and other household activities. Work-wise, I have acquired leadership qualities and negotiation skills. I, individually, handle 3 to 4 third party channels of ICICI Bank. That speaks for itself!
Some tips for campus placement
I have learnt so much from AIMETC. My teachers were very helpful throughout the placement process. They helped me build a solid resume and coached me for essential group discussion skills. They held many mock rounds in the college campus for all students. I also took some aptitude coaching privately. However, one solid tip I would give is to read the newspaper thoroughly. It is a must! You have to work from day one. Also, do follow what your teachers tell you, they know the industry better than you.
How was the journey at AIMETC?
It was a wonderful journey when I learned many practical lessons. AIMETC is not about bookish knowledge. I gained much practical understanding and knowledge from there. All this still helps me as I was recently promoted at the workplace.
What is the plan for the next 5 years?
The next step would be to become an area level relationship manager, then progress to zonal level and eventually become a product head.
