Raksha bandhan celebration at Apeejay Svran Global School

Young learners combined creativity with care

Raksha Bandhan has always been a festival of love, protection, and the unbreakable bond between siblings. This year, Apeejay Svran Global School, Sector 21-D, Faridabad, gave the celebration a refreshing and eco-conscious twist. Students from Nursery to Grade 5 tied colourful rakhis to trees in the school premises, pledging to care for and protect them as one would a sibling.

The symbolic gesture reminded everyone that trees, too, are protectors, silently providing oxygen, shade, fruits, and shelter, expecting nothing in return. By extending the festival’s sentiment beyond human relationships, the school instilled in its students the importance of gratitude and responsibility towards nature.

A Green Pledge for the Future

Each rakhi tied around a tree represented a promise — to water it regularly, avoid harming it, and spread awareness about its importance. Teachers used the occasion to explain the vital role trees play in maintaining ecological balance, reducing pollution, and supporting countless living organisms.

Through this activity, students learned that love is not limited to people but can be extended to all living beings and even the environment. Such experiences aim to develop empathy, respect for nature, and a sense of environmental stewardship in young learners.

Creative Expressions – Rakhi Making Activity

To enhance the festive atmosphere, students from Grades 1 to 5 participated in a lively Rakhi Making Activity. Armed with colourful ribbons, glitter, beads, sequins, and other craft materials, they designed beautiful handmade rakhis.

This hands-on task not only nurtured creativity and fine motor skills but also deepened their understanding of cultural traditions. Many students proudly spoke about gifting these rakhis to their brothers, making the gesture even more special.

Blending Tradition with Education

The Raksha Bandhan celebrations at Apeejay Svran Global School were not just about festivities. They were a practical lesson in values — teaching children that protection, care, and love are universal principles that can be applied to people, animals, and nature alike.

By incorporating environmental awareness into cultural celebrations, the school continues to nurture compassionate, socially responsible, and culturally aware citizens. The event served as a reminder that small actions, like tying a rakhi to a tree, can carry a powerful message for a greener, more sustainable future.
