Project warmth at this school was a lesson in compassion

In a remarkable display of compassion and social responsibility, the Interactors of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, embarked on ‘Project Warmth’ to spread cheer and comfort this winter. On December 19, 2024, they visited Goonj NGO, carrying with them woollen garments collected from the school’s students and staff. The initiative aimed to contribute to underprivileged communities while fostering a sense of responsibility among young learners.

The journey began with a school-wide collaboration, where both students and staff came together to donate woollen clothes for the less fortunate. The project not only highlighted the value of generosity but also emphasised the importance of working as a team to achieve meaningful outcomes.  Upon reaching, the Interactors were greeted warmly by the Goonj staff. The welcome set a positive tone for an enlightening session that was to follow.

Visiting Goonj was not just like any ordinary visit but rather a value-based and heartwarming experience for students which opened their eyes to the harsh realities that the poor and the underprivileged go through. The school gathered several donations of woollens for the cause.

“Since childhood, it’s been taught that sharing is caring, but the joy of truly doing it made us feel how grateful and blessed we are to be able to help others. We were shown various rooms where clothes of different grades were sorted, and rooms for collection of toys, games, and musical instruments were shown,” the students who visited the NGO said.

The Power of Sustainability and Community Support

During the interactive session, the students were encouraged to ask questions and share their thoughts. This dialogue deepened their understanding of the importance of sustainability and the value of giving back to society.

According to Ms Moumita Mallik Sen, “Interacting with the beneficiaries allowed students to step into their shoes, fostering empathy. It made students understand how small gestures can significantly improve someone’s life. Overall, the visit to the NGO and the act of donating woollens during winter highlighted the significance of compassion and collective action. It instilled valuable life lessons in students, encouraging them to become socially conscious and proactive citizens.”

‘Project Warmth’ was a resounding success, blending community service with education. The Interactors of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, not only contributed to a meaningful cause but also gained invaluable insights into social responsibility and sustainability.

Such initiatives serve as a reminder of the power of collective efforts and the difference young change-makers can make in shaping a better world. Through this heartwarming experience, the students embodied the essence of kindness, proving that no act of generosity, however small, is ever wasted.
