From entering with a limited understanding of Finance and Excel to emerging as a skilled Data Analyst at Bharat Fincare — Rishab Kumar Jha’s transformative journey at Apeejay School of Management (ASM) is a true example of learning beyond textbooks. A student of Finance and Business Analytics (Batch 2025), he reflects on how ASM helped him discover his strengths, build confidence, and develop future-ready skills.

Read edited excerpts:

When you look back, how has ASM shaped your personality and career goals?

When I joined ASM, I thought Finance meant just accounting and Data Analytics was simply learning Excel. But ASM completely changed this mindset. The professors helped me understand how analytical and financial skills go hand-in-hand in real careers.

Even though my current role is more focused on analytics, finance learning has become a life skill — from managing my personal finances to understanding market behaviours. Today, I can analyse data with tools like Power BI and make informed financial decisions. ASM helped me connect both worlds.

You mentioned you were a shy person earlier. What helped you become more confident?

Absolutely! When I joined, I was too shy to speak or interact in groups. If I had entered the corporate world back then, I wouldn’t have survived!

But ASM’s weekly club and team-building activities helped me open up. Every Friday, we had interactive sessions that pushed us to work together. These experiences taught me teamwork, communication and how to collaborate in a professional environment.

Which clubs and workshops made the biggest difference in your learning?

I actively participated in several clubs, especially the Finance Club and Analytics Club. We had fun learning sessions led by our faculty, including analytical games! When you learn while playing, it becomes fascinating. This is how I truly built an analytical mindset. Power BI workshops were another turning point, helping me gain practical, industry-relevant skills.

Any classroom memory that stands out?

One of my favourites comes from financial behaviour class. Every month, our professor assigned us a company to analyse — its finances, market position and even future predictions.

That’s when I realised finance isn’t only for investors or accountants — it’s everywhere. To live smartly in today’s economy, everyone needs a financial mindset. These projects made us think like real analysts, not just students.
