A fire evacuation drill is important as it prepares students and staff to respond calmly and correctly during emergencies. It helps minimise panic, ensures quick and safe evacuation, and reduces the risk of injuries. On a similar note, Apeejay School, Kharghar, conducted a Fire Evacuation Drill in accordance with the Disaster Management and safety guidelines prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as part of its continued commitment to student safety and emergency preparedness.
The drill aimed to sensitise students and staff to disaster management protocols while reinforcing calm, responsible, and disciplined responses during emergencies. It was organised within the school premises to enhance awareness and readiness among the entire school community. The initiative reflected the school’s proactive approach towards creating a safe and secure learning environment.
It commenced with the activation of the fire alarm, which immediately alerted students and staff across the campus. Responding promptly, students evacuated their classrooms in an orderly and composed manner, strictly following the designated evacuation routes. The calm and disciplined movement of students highlighted their preparedness and familiarity with emergency procedures.
Teachers played a pivotal role throughout the drill by taking charge of their respective classes, guiding students with reassurance and clarity, and ensuring complete accountability. Floor-wise supervision was meticulously carried out, with continuous monitoring of corridors, staircases, and washrooms to ensure that no area was left unattended. The Vice-principal, coordinators, teachers, and sports teachers worked in close coordination to manage the process smoothly and efficiently.

Sports teachers effectively supervised the movement in open areas and assembly zones, ensuring proper formations, crowd control, and unobstructed pathways. Their active involvement contributed significantly to maintaining order and preventing panic. The seamless coordination, alertness, and effective communication among all staff members ensured that the evacuation process was conducted safely and systematically.
Once the drill concluded, the gathering was addressed by the school Principal, Dr Sonali Balwatkar. In her address, she emphasised the importance of disaster preparedness as a vital life skill and reiterated the need for calmness, discipline, and strict adherence to safety protocols during emergency situations. Her words reinforced CBSE’s vision of holistic safety education and responsible citizenship.
The drill was conducted successfully, meeting its intended objectives. It not only strengthened emergency preparedness but also reaffirmed Apeejay School, Kharghar’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, and preparedness of its students and staff.
