“An unexamined life is not worth living” is a famous dictum uttered by Socrates. Through this statement, Socrates meant to emphasise the fact that how an unexamined human life is deprived of self-awareness, learnings, growth, change, and meaning.
A session on ‘Practicing Self-Reflection’ was conducted for the students of the Middle Year Programme, during which they shared their thoughts on the significance of reflection, how frequently they engage in the process, and how helpful they find it.
On being asked what kind of questions they would put in a self-reflection journal, students came up with interesting responses like, “What could have been done differently?”, “What went wrong? What went right?”, “What did you learn from that experience?”, among others.
As part of understanding the power of self-reflection, a video on “Why introspection matters” was played, which referred to a traditional folktale called the Androcles and the Lion.
At the end, students were given two journals to reflect on the learnings of the past year.
