PM Modi invites Google to ‘contribute’ to AI Summit 2023

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual interaction with Google and Alphabet Inc CEO, Sundar Pichai, on October 16, 2023. During the discussion, he extended an invitation to Google to play a role in the upcoming Global Partnership on the AI Summit scheduled for December in New Delhi.
The PM’s office stated that they discussed Google’s plans to enhance the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. PM also commended Google’s collaboration with HP to produce Chromebooks within the country.
In addition to this, he recognised Google’s initiative to support 100 languages and urged efforts to make AI tools accessible in Indian languages. He also encouraged Google to focus on AI tools for effective governance.
Regarding the company’s initiatives in India, the statement mentioned that the PM welcomed Google’s intention to establish its global fin-tech operations centre at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar. Pichai briefed the PM about Google’s strategies to advance financial inclusion in India by leveraging GPay and UPI. He also highlighted Google’s dedication to contributing to India’s developmental trajectory.
