Link education with the real-world economy: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need to further align India’s education system with the real-world economy and strengthen the focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation. Speaking at a post-Budget webinar, the Prime Minister highlighted that India is steadily moving towards an innovation-driven economy and that the education sector must adapt accordingly. He said institutions must expand their focus on future-orientated domains, including artificial intelligence, automation, the digital economy, and design-driven manufacturing, to prepare students for evolving industry demands.

Modi stressed that accelerating the integration between education and practical economic needs will help create a skilled workforce capable of contributing to India’s growth in advanced technology sectors. Strengthening innovation, research, and industry collaboration in educational institutions was also highlighted as a key step toward achieving this goal.

During his address, the Prime Minister also spoke about India’s progress in healthcare and the country’s vision of promoting preventive and holistic health. Over the past few years, he noted, significant improvements have been made in the nation’s health infrastructure.

Medical colleges have been established across hundreds of districts to expand access to medical education and healthcare services. Government initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat scheme and the establishment of Arogya Mandirs have further extended healthcare access to villages and underserved areas.

The PM also pointed out that traditional wellness practices such as yoga and Ayurveda are gaining increasing recognition and popularity globally, reflecting India’s growing influence in the field of holistic healthcare.

He reiterated that innovation in education and healthcare will remain central to India’s long-term development strategy.
