From Data Enthusiast to Aspiring Data Scientist, this Apeejay Stya University (ASU) student shares about her experiences and career goals
Akriti Pratap Singh is a fourth-year B.Tech student at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), specialising in AI and machine learning. In a candid chat, she shares insights into her campus life, the invaluable lessons learned during her internship at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Delhi, and her aspirations to pursue a career in data science.
What has your experience at ASU been like so far?
The experience has been amazing. The teachers and mentors are incredibly motivating and helpful, even outside of regular working hours. If I ever have any queries, they are always ready to help. The personalised guidance I’ve received has made my journey here really fulfilling.
Why did you choose AI and ML as your field of study?
I’ve always been passionate about math and statistics, which naturally led me to AI and machine learning. Many concepts in electronics and logic are based on math, which I love. Playing with data is something that excites me, especially now when data is the foundation of everything in AI.
How would you describe campus life?
Campus life is great. Although it’s less crowded, it actually works in my favor since I get more personalised attention from the teachers. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in class and engage in extracurricular activities. I’ve enjoyed participating in cultural activities like Rangoli and sports.
Can you tell us about your internship at the National Institute of Technology, Delhi?
I interned at NIT Delhi through a campus placement opportunity, as there is an MOU signed between the two institutions. The experience was excellent, especially working and developing softwares, designed for rescue and detection. We used generative AI for image creation and detection—a crucial skill for today’s tech landscape.
Were there any preparations by ASU for your internship?
Yes, absolutely. ASU conducted regular workshops and sessions—sometimes up to six in a week—to help us prepare for exams, group discussions, and interviews. The guidance from the professors played a significant role in helping me secure the internship and succeed during the experience.
What’s your career goal after graduation?
I aim to become a data scientist. I’m very enthusiastic about working with data and using my skills in AI to solve real-world problems.
