Recently, Apeejay School, Sector 15-A, Faridabad, organised a meaningful workshop titled Building a Strong Foundation: Teaching Students the Importance of Being a Good Citizen. The session aimed at instilling core values of responsibility, respect, and care towards others and the environment, while encouraging students to embrace their roles as active contributors to society.

The workshop was thoughtfully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4: Quality Education and 12: Responsible Consumption and Production), reinforcing the school’s commitment to raising socially aware and responsible individuals. By connecting global sustainability goals with everyday practices, the session empowered students to see themselves as catalysts for positive change in their communities.

The programme unfolded through interactive discussions and engaging activities that encouraged students to reflect on the importance of good citizenship in daily life. They explored simple yet impactful actions, such as respecting peers, conserving resources, reducing waste, and practising empathy, as pathways to contribute to a better world. Teachers guided the participants in understanding that being a good citizen goes beyond academic excellence—it means embodying values that promote harmony, sustainability, and inclusivity.

A particularly inspiring segment of the workshop invited students to share their ideas on how they could practice good citizenship in school and beyond. From planting trees and reducing plastic usage to helping peers in need and respecting cultural diversity, the responses showcased the clarity and enthusiasm with which young learners view their responsibilities.

At the close of the session, the students collectively took a pledge to embody the qualities of responsible citizenship, promising to act with kindness, integrity, and respect while contributing meaningfully to the well-being of society. This act of commitment underlined the workshop’s larger goal—empowering children to see themselves as future leaders and change-makers who can drive progress towards a sustainable and harmonious world.

By nurturing these values early, Apeejay School, Sector 15-A, Faridabad, continues to uphold its mission of shaping not only well-educated but also socially conscious and empathetic individuals. The workshop was a reminder that the foundation of a strong nation lies in the character of its citizens, and instilling these lessons in young minds today is the true key to building a brighter tomorrow.
