A Coffee Morning for the parents of classes VII-A and VII-B was recently organised at Apeejay School, Noida. The session started with a special assembly prepared by the students. This was followed by an interaction with Principal Ms Ritu Kohli, where varied questions were posed to her. The event was indeed an excellent avenue to pass the voices of parents to the management for improvement feedback and to collaborate on strategies that benefit children in their learning experiences.
During the meeting, the parents appreciated the efforts of the school in managing events to ensure full participation. However, there were some issues regarding academics. They said that the syllabus was quite voluminous and used to get completed much in advance of the final examinations, thus leaving less time for self-study by the students. Besides, issues like lost notebooks and the deficiency of analytical thinking and confidence among students were highlighted.
Speaking about this meeting a parent said, “We appreciate the school’s commitment to addressing parents’ concerns, ensuring our children not only succeed academically but also develop the confidence and critical thinking skills necessary for their future.”
Ms Kanchan, talking about the assembly shared,” The assembly was a powerful reminder of the values embodied by Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. It was heartening to see our students embrace their teachings, showcasing their leadership and creativity.”
Assuring the Parents
Ms Kohli assured parents that their issues are being addressed. She emphasised that syllabus completion and correction of notebooks would be done at least five days before exams and a correction timetable is already in place. She clarified that students should not have more than two homework assignments per day and should submit them timely. She urged the parents to encourage their children to attend extra classes available on Saturdays for additional practice.
She also mentioned that the school is keen on profile building and shared that a sports plan will also be made for the students and teachers for holistic development. According to the principal, excessive gadgetry is a new concern among students, and the plan to conduct counselling sessions to enhance a healthy lifestyle also.
Common Vision for a Bright Future
Ms Kohli said that the onus lies with the child to manage their learning hours and informed that the school is working towards added moral value sessions. The school has further proposed clear guidelines regarding the Inter-school and Inter-house competitions.
Overall, the Coffee Morning ended on an affirmative note – a partnership for the establishment of attitudes and aspirations of future citizens between parents and the school.
