Read edited excerpts:
Could you tell us a little about your professional background?
I work as a Credit Analyst at Standard Chartered Bank. My role involves analysing client profiles, verifying financial documents, and ensuring that all requirements are in place before approving any banking services. It’s a responsible role that requires both accuracy and quick decision-making.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
On a daily basis, I work with multiple customer profiles. Whenever a customer applies for funds, there is detailed documentation to review and analyse. We make sure that the profile meets all requirements before proceeding further. My job is about maintaining financial discipline and ensuring everything is aligned with banking policies.

What advice would you like to share with students aspiring to enter the banking industry?
My advice to students is simple – whatever industry you choose, be ready to work hard and learn quickly. The banking sector, like many others, demands adaptability. If you are willing to understand processes thoroughly, you will find many opportunities to showcase your talent and grow.
What skills do you think are important to succeed in the banking profession?
First, a basic knowledge of banking and finance is essential. In addition, having IT skills is a huge advantage today, as technology is playing an increasingly important role in financial services. A combination of finance and IT knowledge can really help young professionals stand out.
Are there any specific courses students should pursue for a career in banking?
While general banking courses are available, I believe success depends more on how you learn and apply your knowledge. Specialised courses can add value, but they are not the only way forward. The key is continuous learning and developing the right set of skills.
