Oxford University Press India (OUPI) has introduced a comprehensive wellness curriculum aimed at school children, fostering an understanding of emotions, promoting physical activity, nurturing healthy relationships, and instilling a sense of ecological responsibility.

Named ‘My Happiness and Me,’ this initiative comprises a series of eight activity workbooks designed for students in classes I-VIII. In line with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework 2023, OUPI’s curriculum emphasises the holistic development of learners.

The course, developed in collaboration with content partner Rangeet, aims to instill healthy practices in learners, helping them differentiate between positive and negative emotions and providing them with tools to address these emotions effectively.

Sumanta Datta, MD of OUPI, highlighted the significance of the ‘My Happiness and Me’ series, describing it as a toolkit enabling learners to navigate their emotions and relationships successfully. The active learning pedagogy endorsed by the Oxford Impact Study not only enhances well-being but also correlates with improved educational outcomes across various disciplines.

According to the study, the inclusion of a wellness curriculum in schools has been linked to higher learner engagement, increased rates of success, reduced dropout rates, and elevated levels of self-efficacy and self-esteem among students.

The series is structured around five overarching themes in each workbook: My Mind, My Body, My Relationships, My World, and Nature Is Beautiful. These themes guide learners through various topics, including anger and stress management, recognising positive and negative touch, addressing issues like bullying and gender discrimination, and promoting understanding of nutrition and exercise.

OUPI asserts that this series provides an accessible and engaging platform for children to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings, contributing to the development of well-rounded individuals.
