OpenAI unveils ChatGPT Atlas

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, an innovative web browser designed to integrate artificial intelligence directly into the browsing experience. Built with ChatGPT at its core, Atlas enables users to perform tasks, search intelligently, and edit text — all within the same window.
The browser introduces a new ‘Ask ChatGPT’ sidebar, allowing users to request summaries, explanations, or real-time assistance without switching tabs. Alongside traditional browsing tools, the sidebar acts as a built-in digital assistant that understands on-screen content and provides contextual help.
One of Atlas’s key highlights is browser memory, which allows ChatGPT to recall previously visited sites and retrieve relevant information when needed. OpenAI clarified that this feature is optional and can be viewed, archived, or deleted anytime, giving users full control over their data.
Atlas also features AI-powered search, offering more detailed and relevant results by combining ChatGPT’s reasoning capabilities with standard search links displayed in a split view.
With its new Agent Mode, Atlas can perform tasks autonomously, such as booking tables, scheduling appointments, or conducting research, making it more of an active digital assistant than a passive search tool.
Additionally, the browser supports in-line text editing, enabling users to refine tone and clarity while drafting emails or documents.
ChatGPT Atlas is now available on macOS for Free, Plus, Pro, and Go users, with beta access extended to Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. Versions for Windows, iOS, and Android will follow soon.
