Parkkhi Baansal is an art prodigy from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg in Jalandhar. Take a look at her amazing artworks and one might even guess them to be animated. Such is the fineness of this child’s skill. Selected as this Week’s Aspiring Artist, the class 5 student Parkkhi takes us on a walk with her simple yet heartfelt answers about the definition of art and more. Read edited excerpts:

Since when did you start drawing?

I started drawing when I was in lower kindergarten. It came very naturally to me and I really loved how one portrays the beauty around through art.

Which art form is your favourite and why?

I like to draw human sketches in water colours because it helps me bring out  human emotions through art. I love this medium as it enables me to make reality and art come closer.

How does your school support you as an artist?

My school supports me a lot by organising various art activities at school. I participate in them and get to learn so much. Besides, the school art teacher is always encouraging us students.

So, what is your definition of art?

Art is the reflection of the heart, as simple as that. (laughs)

How much time does it take you to complete an artwork? What are your common ideas and themes?

Watercolour painting takes me about 3-4 days to finish it alongside school work. I love drawing divine figures and also like nature artworks.

Any upcoming artworks?

I have made an artwork of Saraswati Maa on the occasion of Basant Panchami. I loved making it.

A new artform you wish to learn?

Mandala art form and beach paintings. I find them so interesting and beautiful. I will learn them pretty soon, that’s my plan.

Lastly, other hobbies apart from art?

I love to play badminton and football. Sports keeps me fit and helps me learn many lessons in a  practical way.
