The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has formed a 14-member committee, headed by actor and educationist Swaroop Sampat Rawal, to focus on integrating innovative pedagogy and teaching-learning material (TLM) for classes III to XII.

Rawal, a finalist for the global teacher prize in 2019, will lead the “Curriculum Area Group (CAG): Innovative pedagogy and teaching learning material.” This committee is an extension of the 19-member National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), which was established in July to finalise the curriculum, textbooks, and learning material for these classes, as stated in an NCERT notification.
The NSTC includes prominent figures like author and Infosys Foundation Chair Sudha Murthy, Singer Shankar Mahadevan, and Economist Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. The NSTC was mandated to form at least 11 CAGs covering various subject areas. The 14-member committee announced on October 16, 2023 is the first in this line of committees.
The objective of this group is to ensure the seamless integration of cutting-edge activity-based, discussion-based, project-based, and art-integrated pedagogical methods, along with innovative hands-on materials, into textbooks and teaching learning material across different school stages and subjects, according to the NCERT notification.
