This endocrinologist in Jalandhar chose Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, because first, her husband is an alumnus, so it felt like the obvious choice for them. The parents have always known Apeejay Schools to have a strong reputation for academic excellence, which is something they value deeply. Another practical reason was that the school is very close to their home. So after considering everything, it truly felt like the natural and only choice. Meet Dr Akshata Desai, whose son, Shiv, is studying in Class VI.
In a candid interview, the parent shares how the school has supported her son’s overall well-being.
How has the school supported your child’s overall well-being?
I’ve seen remarkable growth in Shiv since he joined Apeejay School. The biggest indicator for me is how he feels about school. He goes happily and comes back happy. His enthusiasm tells me he enjoys the environment, feels nurtured, and is learning well. He often comes home excited to share things, and they’re positive.
What does it tell you about the school environment?
It tells me that the teachers are supportive, he feels valued and heard, and he’s truly enjoying both learning and being in school. I’ve never heard him complain that a teacher didn’t listen or that he felt unheard. That speaks volumes.
As a doctor, how do you view the school’s approach to health and student well-being?
As a doctor, these aspects matter a lot to me. The school conducts awareness activities on nutrition and healthy eating, and they encourage discipline in hygiene, which I appreciate. They also have a counsellor who regularly visits all classes. She uses age-appropriate activities to connect with the children, which I feel is very valuable.
Have you noticed changes in Shiv’s independence since he entered Class VI?
He has become very independent. He insists on studying on his own. He completes his homework himself and manages everything independently. This is a big relief for me because with my younger daughter in Class III, most of my focus is on her. With Shiv, a little supervision is enough.
What aspects of the school environment help him stay motivated?
It’s the environment the teachers have created. They’ve sparked genuine interest in his subjects. Beyond academics, he enjoys sports days and loves music. Extracurricular activities, along with academics, have given him a nurturing and supportive space to grow and become independent.
What kind of teaching methodology works best for Shiv?
Shiv is very practical and mature for his age. He surprises me with how clearly he sees the right way to do things. He learns best when concepts are connected to real-life applications. He picks up concepts quickly and rarely struggles. So, conceptual, application-based teaching at school works wonders for him.
