This prodigy from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, has his hands full with remarkable achievements
He has aced the game of Olympiads since 2020, owning the top position niche across various subjects. Some say he is blessed, though he credits his hard work and sincerity that led him to bag the top positions. Meet Samarth Sharma of Class VI at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg. In a candid interview, he shares how he is beaming with pride after sitting at the apex of accomplishments – Rank 1 in Punjab Zone of National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) and Achieved Rank 4 in Punjab Zone of Unified International Mathematics Olympiad (UIMD) amongst others.
Tell us about your Olympiad achievements to date.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to secure several accolades in Olympiads across multiple subjects. In 2020–21, I achieved Class Rank 1 in OGO Science. The following year, 2021–22, I excelled in SOF Olympiads with School Rank 2 in IEO, School Rank 1 in NSO, IGKO, and IMO, along with being the City Topper in NSTSE under the Unified Olympiad. In 2022–23, my achievements included School Rank 1 in IGKO, Rank 4 in IEO, Rank 2 in NSO, Rank 3 in IMO, Rank 1 in NCO with Zonal Rank 3, and Rank 1 in ISSO with Zonal Rank 7. Additionally, I earned State Rank 11 in UIMO and State Rank 5 in NSTSE conducted by Unified Olympiads. Continuing the journey in 2023–24, I secured School Rank 4 in NSO, School Rank 1 in IGKO, School Rank 5 in IEO, School Rank 1 in IMO, School Rank 1 in NCO, and School Rank 1 in ISSO.
What motivated you to participate in it?
During the COVID-19 lockdown, my father introduced me to GK books, which sparked my interest in reading and learning beyond textbooks. This new habit motivated me to test my knowledge on competitive platforms, and that’s how I began participating in Olympiads, eventually turning it into a passion.
How did Apeejay School support your success journey?
The school has been a constant pillar of support in my success journey. Our Vice-principal always encouraged me to remain consistent in my studies, which motivated me to stay focused and disciplined. The school’s guidance and encouragement played a vital role in shaping my achievements and confidence.
What were the challenges you faced during the Olympiad?
One of the main challenges I faced during Olympiad preparation was scoring low marks in practice tests, which sometimes felt discouraging. However, I learnt to overcome this by staying consistent, revising regularly, and not giving up. This perseverance helped me improve steadily and perform better in the actual Olympiads.
What are your plans?
My plan ahead is to continue acquiring knowledge and expanding my horizons. I wish to explore new subjects, strengthen my skills, and challenge myself through competitions like Olympiads. Constant learning will not only help me academically but also prepare me for future opportunities with confidence and curiosity.
