Shweta Arora will be completing her MBA degree this year from Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC). She has bagged job offers from BlueStar, Tommy Hilfiger, and HDFC Life through campus placements. The Apeejay student, who specialised in Marketing & Operations, tells us how she prepared for the interviews and the lessons she learnt.

Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose AIMETC for an MBA?

I graduated from Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) so I was already well aware of Apeejay’s legacy in quality education. That is one of the main reasons I opted for AIMETC. Apeejay also inculcates various qualities and values in students by involving them in a lot of activities that boost confidence and enhance skills like communication, logical thinking, and more.

What skills did you develop in AIMETC and how did the professors help you?

The staff at AIMETC is very cooperative and always ready to help students. They are always ready to share their experiences and insights with patience. They provided the best guidance and mentorship that helped every student.

Apeejay helped me gain confidence through exposure to different activities. I learnt the skill of emceeing by hosting several events. My communication skills also improved in the process.

How did you prepare for the placements?

I started preparing right from the beginning of my MBA course. I actively participated in events to work on my skills for group discussions. As for the aptitude test, I practised with the help of online sample tests and reading materials. Our professors took special classes to prepare us for the job interviews.

What has your job interview experience taught you?

In my opinion, there can be no shortcut to preparing for a job interview, be it any company. You must begin early. As we say, first impression is the last impression. And for a positive first impression, you must be well-dressed, have an attractive resume, and be well-versed in the company’s vision and work. Make sure you have some understanding of the skills mentioned in your resume so that you can answer the recruiter’s questions confidently.
