My Journey at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication: A year of growth & discovery

As I approach the end of my course in Corporate Communications and Event Management at the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey that has shaped my professional and personal growth over the past year. This experience has been a tapestry of learning, creativity, and camaraderie, woven through a series of memorable events and academic endeavors.
Orientation: The First Step
The journey began with the Orientation, a day that I remember vividly. Sitting in a corner of the auditorium, I felt nervous, afraid, and overwhelmed by the sea of new faces around me. However, this initial trepidation soon gave way to excitement and anticipation as we participated in ice-breaking activities designed to introduce us to one another. These moments not only helped in forging new friendships but also in building a sense of community among us.

It was during these early days that I discovered my interest in capturing moments through the camera. As I started handling the camera, I began to see the world through a different lens, literally and metaphorically, appreciating the importance of documenting our journey.
Brand Culture Gully: A Marketplace of Ideas
One of the highlights of our year was the Brand Culture Gully event, a vibrant marketplace where creativity and entrepreneurship thrived. We were tasked with creating a product or service, setting up stalls, and showcasing our offerings. This event was a practical lesson in brand creation and marketing, where we applied theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. The experience of selling our products and interacting with visitors provided invaluable insights into consumer behavior and marketing strategies.
Academic Pursuits: Learning from Industry Experts
During my first and second semesters at the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), I had the privilege of being taught by industry experts and experienced professors. Their guidance was instrumental in deepening my understanding of corporate communications, event management, advertising, and public relations.
The curriculum was enriched with practical insights and real-world applications. In corporate communications, we learned effective strategies for internal and external communication within organisations. Event management classes equipped us with skills to plan and execute successful events, from concept to completion.
Advertising courses delved into the creative and strategic aspects of creating impactful campaigns, while public relations lessons focused on building and maintaining a positive public image for clients. The hands-on approach and industry-relevant knowledge provided by our professors prepared us for the dynamic field of media and communication.
These semesters were foundational in shaping my skills and confidence, ensuring that I am well-prepared for a successful career in the industry.
Brand Case Study: Building from Scratch
Throughout our academic year, our team collaborated to create a hypothetical brand, gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of brand development. We began by designing the brand’s identity, including its name, logo, and core values. We then launched the brand, strategically positioning it in the market.
We utilised a variety of integrated marketing tools and techniques to promote the brand. This included creating and executing a detailed marketing plan, which encompassed both traditional and digital advertising methods. We shot a series of advertisements, employing creative storytelling to highlight the brand’s unique selling propositions.
Our social media marketing efforts were comprehensive. We developed content calendars, created engaging posts, and utilised analytics to track performance and refine our strategies. We also ran targeted ad campaigns on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to increase brand visibility and engagement.

Additionally, we explored public relations tactics, such as drafting press releases and organising events, to build the brand’s reputation and foster relationships with media outlets and influencers. Through these activities, we gained a deep understanding of how various marketing elements work together to build and sustain a brand.
This extensive project not only honed our marketing skills but also provided us with invaluable insights into the practicalities of establishing and nurturing a successful brand in the real world.
A Memorable Experience at the We Care International Film Festival 2023.
As a student at the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), the We Care International Film Festival 2022 was a significant event in my journey. This festival, held at our campus, focused on the theme of ‘Disability’ and featured award-winning films from around the world.
The event began with the inauguration of a photo and painting exhibition, followed by the formal lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The screenings included powerful short films that highlighted various aspects of disability, promoting empathy and understanding. A special fashion show by Divyang kids and insightful keynote addresses added depth to the experience.
The festival not only showcased impactful films but also emphasised the importance of inclusivity and social responsibility. Participating in this event was a profound experience, enriching my time at Apeejay and inspiring me to use my skills to contribute positively to society.
Reflecting on my time at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me into a confident and capable professional. The journey was filled with learning, challenges, and growth, all of which have prepared me for the next chapter in my career. As I move forward, I carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the memories cherished, ready to make a meaningful impact in the field of corporate communications and event management.
