Janvi Sharma, a class 8 student with Apeejay School, Tanda Road in Jalandhar, has made a mark with her impressive range of achievements. From clenching medals at all four levels of the SpellBee International Competition to securing a consolation prize in Punjabi Poem Recitation, Janvi’s accolades extend to setting records in both the International Book of Records and the Kalam Book of Records. Her accomplishments also include winning a medal in the English Olympiad and earning second place in English Declamation. With such a diverse portfolio, Janvi’s journey is a remarkable example of talent and dedication. We caught up with her to delve into the secrets behind her success and her approach to balancing academics with her many pursuits.

Janvi, you have achieved remarkable success in various competitions. Could you share what motivates you to excel in such diverse areas?
My motivation comes from a blend of passion and support. I’ve always loved poetry and English, which naturally led me to participate in the SpellBee International Competition. My interest in language and literature drives me to constantly push my limits. Additionally, my family and teachers play a crucial role; they have been my biggest supporters and motivators throughout this journey.
You’ve won medals at all four levels of the SpellBee International Competition. How did you prepare for it?
Preparing for SpellBee involves regular practice and a love for the language. My interest in English made me eager to participate. I also found that learning new spellings and synonyms significantly expanded my vocabulary. It’s about consistent practice and staying curious about the language.
You also have achievements in Punjabi Poem Recitation and record books. How do you balance preparation for these diverse competitions?
For Punjabi Poem Recitation, I write and refine my poems with my mother’s help. The themes are usually given in advance, and I choose topics that inspire me, like patriotism. As for the records, such as solving 200+ addition sums quickly, my experience with Abacus has been instrumental. Balancing these requires careful planning and dedication, but it’s manageable with a strong mindset.
You mentioned receiving recognition in the Kalam Book of Records. Can you elaborate on that achievement?
The Kalam Book of Records recognised me for solving over 200 addition sums quickly. My practice with Abacus from a young age significantly contributed to this achievement. The immense practice over the years made solving these problems efficient and swift.

What role do your teachers and the school environment play in your success?
Apeejay School has been fundamental in my growth. The supportive environment and encouragement from teachers have been invaluable. They focus on every student individually, which helps in nurturing our talents and building confidence.
How do you manage your academics alongside your extracurricular achievements?
Balancing academics with extracurriculars is all about mindset. If you’re determined and organised, it’s quite manageable. I wake up early, practice meditation and yoga, and then focus on my schoolwork. This routine helps me stay calm and productive throughout the day.
What advice would you give to other students who aspire to achieve similar success?
My advice is to stay passionate and committed. Embrace the support from your family and teachers, and be open to learning and practising consistently. Having the right mindset and believing in your capabilities are key to achieving success.
