Parents in India spend a significant amount of time choosing a school for their children due to several reasons that stem from cultural, economic, and educational perspectives. Education is highly valued in Indian society as a means to secure a good future. Parents look for schools that offer high-quality education, well-qualified teachers, and a curriculum that not only covers academic subjects but also prepares students for competitive exams and higher education.
The reputation of a school regarding academic performance, extracurricular activities, and overall student development is a critical factor. Parents often seek feedback from other parents, read reviews, and visit schools to ensure they are choosing a reputable school.
Schools like Apeejay School, Tanda Road have the backing of over five decades of legacy making it easy for parents like Ranjana Sharma and her husband, Shekhar, to choose this school for their daughters Dhanvi (class IX) and Khushi (class VII) to enroll them at this school.
In a candid interview, the mother talks about how supportive the teachers are at Apeejay School, Tanda Road.
How and why did you choose this school?
The primary reason was its proximity to our home. When we were looking for a school for our elder daughter, we looked at a few schools but found that the Tanda Road branch not only offered quality education, it also blended co-curricular activities to the mix. This was what we were looking for back then. When it was time for Khushi to start her formal education it followed that she would join this school. Moreso, since we were very satisfied with Dhanvi’s progress.
How is Khushi doing in school?
Both my daughters are doing well in school, particularly Khushi. Though she is in class VII, she is keeping up with the class studies. A lot of credit for this goes to the teachers here; they are incredibly supportive and cooperative, which has been a great help.
If there are any problems, the teachers are very helpful. I find the school environment to be very cooperative and supportive of students’ needs.
Dhanvi is also doing well. Like her sister, she benefits from the supportive environment at school. The teachers are good, and we’re focusing on keeping her engaged and focused despite the distractions from social media and mobile devices.
With exams approaching, do teachers provide any extra support or special preparation?
Yes, they do. The teachers are proactive in motivating and guiding students, which helps in preparing them for exams. They often go the extra mile to ensure students are well-prepared. They finish the syllabus well on time and give students assignments to help students to be well prepared.
Do you feel the pressure of academic performance is too much for the children?
Even though the syllabus does come out late sometimes, the school provides test schedules during the winter break, which is very beneficial for revision and preparation. It’s a balance, but overall, the children manage well with the given schedule and support.

Do your daughters participate in extracurricular activities?
Absolutely. Khushi participates in all her activities, especially the Annual Day, where she has 100 per cent participation. This year, we insisted that she take part in the play for the event.
With the rise of digital distractions, how do you keep your children focused on their studies?
It’s a challenge, especially during breaks when they have more free time. However, we set a schedule to ensure they balance their study time with limited use of gadgets. It’s about teaching them to manage their time effectively.
Have you noticed a shift in parents’ attitudes towards extracurricular activities compared to just focusing on academics?
Yes, there’s a significant shift. Parents now understand the value of a balanced education that includes sports, dance, and music alongside academics. It’s about exposing our children to various fields to discover their interests and talents.
Would you recommend Apeejay to other parents based on your experience?
Definitely. Our overall experience has been positive. The school offers a good balance of academics and extracurricular activities. It’s about voicing your concerns when needed, but yes, I would recommend this school to other parents.
