She is originally from Amritsar and didn’t know much about Jalandhar or its schools. However, her husband’s family knew about the great reputation Apeejay School enjoyed and hence wanted their daughter to study at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg. “We had looked at other schools, but the first time I visited this Apeejay School branch, we felt comfortable. Many children from our colony studied there, which also influenced my decision,” Manpreet Kaur Cheema, a self-proclaimed CEO of her household, said.

In a candid interview, the mother, whose daughter, Jasnoor Kaur, now studies in Class VI, speaks about how the school’s environment shaped her daughter’s growth.

How was your first admission experience at the school?

It was very good. The coordinator and the teachers interacted with Jasnoor, and from the beginning, the school helped her grow. She gained confidence through extracurricular activities.

How has the school environment shaped her growth over the years?

My daughter has participated in many extracurricular activities, including declamation competitions. Recently, she won first prize. Her confidence has increased because of the teachers. I don’t think I could have guided her this well on my own. The teachers play a very strong role in her development.

Changes in her academics or personal growth since joining middle school.

She was recently selected for the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values. I was told that the school’s record for not giving the award at such a young age has been broken. This shows the role of the school environment and the teachers. She often tells me how the principal addresses them positively in the assembly and motivates them.

Any specific moment when you felt you had chosen the perfect school for her?

From LKG onwards, I have felt we made the right choice. She has grown positively in academics and extracurricular activities. She even looks forward to school on Saturdays when it is closed.

How would you describe the communication you receive from the school and teachers?

Communication is excellent. The teachers and staff are very supportive. I have never faced any problem. If my daughter has any doubts, she gets them cleared in class. Teachers handle everything so well. Even if something needs to be followed up on, it happens smoothly.

Have you seen a shift in her study habits?

Earlier, I used to take care of everything. Now, she manages her studies herself. She completes her work and then tells me to take her test. She has become responsible and independent.
