Namya Agarwal, a bright and talented Class 9 student at Apeejay School, Kharghar, has been chosen as this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist—and for good reason. With creativity in her heart, Namya has been expressing herself through art since the age of five. From pencil shading to experimenting with new techniques, she sees every canvas as a new adventure. In this fun and inspiring conversation, Namya talks about her journey, her inspirations, and what art truly means to her.
When did you first pick up the pencil and start drawing?
I began drawing when I was just five years old. It started as a fun way to express myself, and over the years, it has become something I truly enjoy and turn to whenever I want to relax or create something meaningful.

What kind of art do you enjoy the most, and why?
Honestly, I don’t have one particular favourite. I love exploring different art forms—each one teaches me something new and opens up a new world. For me, trying out new techniques and styles is part of the joy of being an artist.
How does your school help you grow as an artist?
My school is really supportive. They always encourage me to participate in art-related activities and competitions. That kind of motivation really helps me to keep improving and showcasing my skills with more confidence.
What does art mean to you, personally?
To me, art is all about patience and trusting the process. It’s how I express my ideas and emotions. Sometimes, it’s not about the end result but the journey of creating something unique—that’s what I enjoy the most.
How do you plan and work on artworks?
It really depends on what I’m creating—some pieces take a few hours, others might take days. The size and style matter. I often draw inspiration from nature, emotions, and little moments in everyday life. And yes, I’ve planned a new artwork for the upcoming vacation!
A new artform you want to learn?
Watercolor sketching!
Finally, other hobbies apart from art?
I love listening to music. It is so refreshing and helps in my art as well. I also love playing badminton.
