Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, is slated to visit India on February 7-8, 2024, underscoring the tech giant’s commitment to Artificial Intelligence (AI) opportunities in the region. The trip follows high-profile meetings in June 2023 between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tech CEOs, including Nadella, discussing AI’s potential growth.
In an internal communication, Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, highlighted Nadella’s visit as a dedication to leveraging technology for expanding opportunities in the country.
Nadella’s itinerary includes engagements with stakeholders in the Indian AI landscape. Reports suggest meetings with founders of AI startups such as Lightspeed-backed Sarvam and Krutrim in Mumbai and Bangalore.
The emphasis on AI aligns with Microsoft’s strategic moves, including AI integrations in Office 365 and the introduction of Copilot, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4. Microsoft’s strengthened partnership with OpenAI, integrating Bing into ChatGPT, positions it as a competitor to Google.
The visit follows organisational changes at OpenAI, with Microsoft forming a new advanced AI research team led by CEO Sam Altman. Anticipating a 15 per cent revenue increase in fiscal year 2024, Microsoft aligns its focus with the growing AI adoption trend. This visit echoes Nadella’s commitment to India, following a four-day visit one year ago, engaging with key stakeholders.
