Amandeep lives a hectic work life. His work seems sales oriented on the outset, but a deeper look would surprise one on how the AIMETC alumnus balances management, finance and logistics together. The Bhatinda Area Executive with Indian Tobacco Company (ITC) deals with countless distributors and salespeople as he begins a regular day at work. In a quick conversation, the former MBA student shares about his learnings and more:
What all work does an area executive have to manage?
My day begins at 9:30 in the morning. Work begins with IDO (Initial Delivery Orders) from our distributors. We have to then tell the wholesale distributors (WD) about the same. I handle the personal care category at ITC. Thus, I am responsible to inform WD about the stock of personal care items and update them about the payments for the same.
Then I speak with a team of salesmen regarding the manual delivery orders. It is followed by a short meeting with our supervisors, where we discuss targets and launch of new products. I also have to visit the designated outlets for the day, and by the evening, I collect the coverage and track the finance and billing status. As you can see, it is a tightly packed day with multifarious work that isn’t just sales driven. It requires management, finance and logistical work.
What inspired you to join this field?
I always wanted to work with a sales and marketing based company and luckily I got placed here. ITC is a great brand. I have been working here for the past one and half years and I am enjoying my work. I am learning on the go and every day is a new adventure.
Life lessons for current students
– Focus on personal growth and be competitive.
– Don’t just remain in friend circles, work and evolve.
Tell us about the AIMETC days?
It was a very fruitful time. I learned a lot there. I am still in touch with many friends from the campus. Some of them also got placed in Bhatinda, fortunately. I am also in touch with the teachers, who were all amazing.
What changes did you observe in yourself after doing an MBA?
The biggest change was the improvement in my English speaking skills. I gained more confidence and I have to say this, AIMETC gave me a goal-driven mindset.
What are your future targets?
I want to work with companies like Coca Cola, Britannia, basically work in the FMCG sector.
