Meet Rhythm Dhingra, an alumna of Apeejay School of Management, who has carved a niche for herself in the world of marketing. Currently working at Standard Chartered, Rhythm exemplifies the perfect blend of intellect, passion, and people skills. In this candid conversation, she shares how her PGDM in Marketing laid the foundation for her success, her memories of ASM, and the invaluable lessons she’s carried into her career.
Please do tell us about your work. What does a regular day look like?
My work revolves around connecting with ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs), understanding their financial needs, and guiding them through customised solutions. A typical day begins with preparing for client meetings, staying updated on market trends, currency movements, and recent changes in the banking sector.
The highlight of my role is interacting with people from diverse walks of life—something I wouldn’t have experienced in any other profile. What’s most fulfilling is that my insights and opinions are not only welcomed but respected. It makes the job intellectually stimulating and rewarding at the same time.
And what inspired you to pursue this career?
I’ve always been a people person—an extrovert who enjoys building connections and meaningful conversations. When I came across this field, it instantly felt like the perfect match. It combined my love for human interaction with the challenges of strategic thinking. Marketing, for me, is not just about selling—it’s about creating value for people.
Do share some memorable moments from your days at ASM?
Absolutely! Those were some of the best years of my life. I vividly remember long discussions with my professors, who went beyond the syllabus to provide valuable life lessons.
Business Communication and HR were my favorite subjects, and I looked forward to every class. Post lectures, my classmates and I would take long walks from college to the hostel, talking about everything from case studies to life plans. Those casual moments were as impactful as the academic ones. They taught me teamwork, adaptability, and how to navigate challenges with resilience.
So your Profs guided you well?
Without a doubt! My teachers played a pivotal role in shaping my perspective—not just academically but holistically. Their guidance often went beyond the classroom, offering personal counseling and encouragement when needed. They helped me gain clarity on my goals and directed me toward making informed decisions.
If you were to describe three qualities most essential in your field?
Hard work, persistence, and agility. Marketing is a dynamic field that requires you to think on your feet, adapt to changing scenarios, and consistently deliver results. These traits might sound straightforward, but they take time to develop. The good news is that anyone can cultivate them with the right mindset and determination.
Finally, your hat advice would you give current students?
My biggest advice would be to think beyond the conventional. College is a golden time to explore, experiment, and discover your true interests. Get involved in extracurricular activities—it’s where you’ll pick up valuable life skills like leadership, collaboration, and time management.
At the same time, don’t neglect your fundamentals. Classes in Marketing and HR, for instance, offer insights that go far beyond the curriculum. They prepare you for the practical realities of the professional world and equip you to face challenges head-on.
