As an Indian, you must have experienced quite a few proud moments in your lifetime. But Chandrayaan-3 successfully achieving the soft-landing on the South Pole of the moon is one of the biggest milestones.

This makes India the only nation in the world to have achieved this feat. All previous attempts on landing at the moon have been made through the moon’s equator, which faces a good amount of sunlight thereby making it easier to land.

The South Pole on the contrary does not get enough sunlight making the area extremely tough to navigate with large unexplored craters, all in a temperature of minus 280 degrees.

Through the length and breadth of the nation, citizens across diverse faiths prayed for Chandrayaan-3’s success. The entire nation was glued to their TV or mobile screens to witness this historical moment and it was indeed an altogether different feeling when Vikram Lander settled on the silver surface of the moon. That’s when the ISRO Chief S Somanath delightedly told the Prime Minister, “India is on the moon!”

Apeejay School, Noida realises the importance of such milestone moments. The school also knows that it is not just education within the classroom, but also beyond it that shapes students into educated citizens. Hence, the school provided the students, parents and staff with a remarkable opportunity to witness the historic moment from the school premises.

Around 150 students across different classes gathered in the school’s auditorium, where a live broadcast of Vikram’s scheduled landing attempt near the moon’s South Pole was arranged. This historic event not only served as an educational experience, but also ignited the students’ curiosity and interest in space exploration.

The event began with a prayer song for the successful launch of the mission followed by an invocation dance. The students were exposed to the scientific details of the space mission which enhanced their understanding of the concepts of propulsion, navigation and remote sensing. They also learnt various new terms related to the field of space exploration. .

As the clock struck 5:30 in the evening, students were thrilled to view the nail-biting countdown for the descent of Chandrayaan-3’s lander. The event generated a high level of excitement and engagement among the students as well as the staff and parents. This unforgettable experience blended education and inspiration for all.

Witnessing such a significant milestone in space exploration helped cultivate a passion for learning and an appreciation for scientific advancements amongst the students. Speaking about the same, Primary teacher in-charge, Mrs Smriti Samuel mentioned, “Chandrayaan-3′ is a testimony to the ingenuity and perseverance of ISRO scientists. This achievement holds significant value for students, offering them a vivid lesson in ambition and scientific advancement. The students witnessed the event with a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity. And the school ensured that the students were aware about the mission and motivated to follow its journey.”

She further added, “Prayers and special events were conducted on the eve of August 23 to add good luck to the venture. And when we witnessed the soft-landing of this evening, it was a moment of great national pride which inspired all irrespective to dream big and work towards it..”

The event left a positive and enduring influence on every individual present. The screening concluded with the collective chorus of the national anthem as everyone congratulated each other on the nation’s iconic success.

Students of Apeejay School, Model Town in Jalandhar also watched the success of Chandrayaan-3 mission. Glued to their television at home, the young minds enjoyed every bit of the live streaming telecasted by ISRO.  The students were super enthusiastic to watch the touchdown and clapped enthusiastically as India achieved the historic feat.

It was the same in the case of Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Jalandhar students. The younglings were super proud as they watched the historic moment on their television sets and clicked pictures to capture this euphoric moment.  Students waved little tirangas passionately and class 4 student Parth even made a clay miniature Chandrayaan-3 model.

With this success, India has become the fourth nation in the world to successfully land a rover on the moon, after the United States, Russia, and China.
