Recently, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, organised an engaging and interactive learning activity titled Sentence Train for the students of Class I. The activity was designed to help young learners understand the basic structure of sentences while making the learning process enjoyable and participative.
The classroom was filled with excitement as the teacher introduced the concept through colourful word strips prepared in advance. Each strip contained a word, and the students were encouraged to work together to arrange these words in the correct order to form meaningful sentences. The activity was presented in the form of a ‘train’, where each word acted as a coach, and when placed correctly, the coaches came together to form a complete sentence.
Through this creative exercise, students learnt how to organise words logically and understand the importance of sentence structure. The teacher guided the learners in recognising the pattern of a simple sentence, helping them identify the Subject, Verb, and Object. This hands-on approach made it easier for the children to grasp grammar concepts that might otherwise seem abstract at an early stage.
The activity also emphasised important writing conventions. Students learnt that every sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. By physically arranging the word strips and reading the completed sentences aloud, the children were able to reinforce their understanding while improving their reading and speaking skills.
The activity at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, proved to be a wonderful blend of play and learning. It encouraged teamwork, active participation, and critical thinking among the students. Most importantly, it helped build a strong foundation in English grammar in a way that was both meaningful and memorable for the young learners.
Such innovative classroom practices at Apeejay School continues to nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence among students while making learning an enjoyable journey.
