Little hands, big sprouts

The seed germination project inculcates students’ scientific knowledge but also instils a sense of wonder and respect for nature’s processes. Such initiatives play a pivotal role in shaping environmentally conscious and curious individuals.

At Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, the Class II students recently engaged in a captivating seed germination activity, offering them a firsthand experience of nature’s wonders. This hands-on experiment not only sparked curiosity but also provided valuable lessons in patience, responsibility, and the essentials of plant growth.

Under the guidance of their teachers, students initiated the process by placing seeds on moist cotton, ensuring they were kept in a warm environment. Over the following days, the children observed with awe as tiny roots and shoots emerged, transforming the seeds into budding saplings. This visual progression deepened their understanding of the vital roles that air, water, and warmth play in nurturing plant life.

Beyond the scientific aspects, the activity emphasised the importance of care and attention. Students learnt that consistent watering and maintaining appropriate warmth are crucial for healthy plant development. This experience also highlighted the interconnectedness of all living things and the significance of environmental stewardship.

The seed germination activity was more than just an educational exercise; it was a joyful exploration of nature. Students eagerly shared their observations, discussing the changes they witnessed and expressing their excitement over each new sprout. This enthusiasm underscored the effectiveness of experiential learning in fostering a deeper connection with the natural world.
