Events like legal awareness and cybercrime seminars are crucial for school students. They empower students with essential knowledge about their rights, safety, and the dangers of the digital world. These sessions help build confidence, raise awareness about legal protections, and equip young individuals with the tools to navigate today’s complex, online environment securely.
On November 6, 2024, the Haryana State Commission for Women organised an enlightening seminar on Legal Awareness and Cyber Crime at Janta College, Charkhi Dadri. The session, aimed at educating young girls on legal rights and online safety, was attended by 37 students from classes VIII and IX, accompanied by faculty member Ms Poonam Sharma.
The seminar began with an empowering address by Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women. She stressed the importance of legal literacy and cyber safety, emphasising the need for young women to be aware of their rights and the precautions to take against online threats. Her talk resonated deeply with the students, inspiring them to stay vigilant in the digital world.

Following her address, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Mr Sanjeet elaborated on the growing issue of cyber crimes, like financial scams and identity theft. He highlighted the significance of reporting cyber crimes promptly to prevent further harm and shared real-life examples to make the discussion more relatable. He also introduced the 112 emergency app, a tool designed to provide quick access to police assistance during distress situations. Students were encouraged to download the app and share it with their families, promoting community-wide awareness.
Principal of Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, Dr Vineet Vasishtha, commended the Haryana State Commission for Women and ASI Mr Sanjeet for conducting such an insightful seminar. He expressed his appreciation, stating, “The safety and well-being of our students are our top priority. Programs like these provide them with the knowledge and confidence to make informed, responsible decisions in both the physical and digital realms.”
Ms Poonam Sharma, a teacher at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, who accompanied the students, expressed her gratitude for the seminar, stating, “This session has equipped our students with crucial knowledge to protect themselves in the digital world. We are thankful to the Haryana State Commission for Women for their efforts in promoting safety and legal awareness.”
The seminar was a success, leaving the students feeling empowered and more informed about their rights and the importance of cyber safety. Many students expressed their intention to apply the practical insights they gained to safeguard themselves online.
