The Pre-primary Wing of Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, recently organised an exciting event called the Shape Hunt Parade. Designed for the youngest learners, this engaging activity offered a playful yet purposeful way to introduce basic geometric concepts. Through this interactive experience, students were encouraged to identify and explore different shapes in their environment, reinforcing key learning outcomes in a joyful setting.
Taking the learning outside, the Shape Hunt Parade turned the school premises into a treasure map of shapes. From squares and circles to triangles and rectangles, children were guided through a fun-filled exploration. As they walked around, they pointed out various objects matching the shapes they had learned in class — windows, wheels, signboards, and more became part of their learning adventure.
This outdoor activity allowed students to experience the real-world relevance of classroom concepts, helping them connect theory with observation. The open-air format also gave them a refreshing break from the usual indoor setting, promoting active participation and movement.
Fostering key skills through play
The activity was not just about shape recognition. It was carefully planned to boost several developmental skills at once. Children enhanced their cognitive skills by identifying and categorising shapes, strengthened their language skills by naming and describing them, and refined their fine motor skills through pointing, drawing, and movement. Additionally, the element of teamwork in the parade promoted social interaction and cooperation.
What stood out most was the joy and curiosity on each child’s face. The Shape Hunt Parade was a celebration of discovery. It encouraged students to ask questions, think critically, and share their observations with peers. This interactive learning method nurtures a love for exploration — an essential trait for lifelong learning.

A thoughtful step in early education
Shape recognition is a foundational part of geometry. Introducing it creatively and engagingly helps build a strong base for future mathematical learning. Concepts like symmetry, attributes, and spatial awareness, which are central to advanced geometry, begin with simple shape identification.
The Shape Hunt Parade was a thoughtful step in making early education more meaningful. It perfectly combined fun with learning, laying the groundwork for both academic success and personal development.
The event left an indelible impression on both students and teachers. As the young learners returned to their classrooms, they carried back more than just new knowledge—they carried a spark of curiosity. The Shape Hunt Parade at Apeejay School, Faridabad, proved once again that when learning is made enjoyable, it becomes unforgettable.
