In an era where technological advancements shape every facet of our lives, Apeejay Schools in Jalandhar – Apeejay School, Rama Mandi; Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg; Apeejay School, Tanda Road and Apeejay School, Model Town – stand at the forefront of educational innovation. Leading this charge is Mr. Yogesh Gupta, the IT Head, whose dedication to integrating technology into the educational framework has been instrumental. With two decades of experience at Apeejay, Mr. Gupta has been a driving force behind the seamless fusion of IT with teaching, enhancing the learning experience for students across Jalandhar’s four branches. In an exclusive conversation, Mr. Gupta shares his journey, highlights significant achievements, and sheds light on how technology is transforming education at Apeejay Schools.

Sir, can you share your journey and what led you to Apeejay Schools?
My journey began with my schooling at DAV Public School in Vikaspuri, New Delhi, where I initially pursued science. However, my fascination with the burgeoning field of IT drew me to shift my focus. By 1996, IT was emerging as a promising field, and I started exploring computer courses. After completing my graduation from Delhi University and MCA from Indira Gandhi University, I sought opportunities to apply my knowledge. That’s when I discovered the IT manager position at Apeejay Schools in Jalandhar. My application was successful, and I was selected by a panel led by Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to enhancing IT infrastructure across the Jalandhar branches.
How has technology transformed the teaching methods at Apeejay Schools?
Technology has become an integral part of education. At Apeejay, we’ve adopted tools like PowerPoint presentations, online resources, and interactive platforms to enrich the learning experience. For instance, teachers use smart boards and YouTube to make lessons more engaging and interactive. This integration helps students grasp complex concepts more effectively and keeps them updated with current trends.

Can you highlight a significant achievement during your tenure?
A memorable achievement was leading a team to the NASA Space Competition in 2008. Our students participated in a project focused on creating a space settlement on Mars. Under my co-mentorship, the team won first prize, which was a significant milestone. This success showcased our students’ talents and the effectiveness of our IT-driven approach.
What role do you play in managing the IT infrastructure across the four Jalandhar branches?
My role involves regular visits to all four branches—Mahavir Marg, Model Town, Tanda Road, and Rama Mandi—to ensure that the IT infrastructure is up-to-date and functioning smoothly. I oversee the maintenance and implementation of both hardware and software, ensuring that teachers and students have access to the best technology for their needs.
How is artificial intelligence incorporated into the curriculum?
Last year, we introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an optional skill-based subject for classes XI and XII. The course covers the latest advancements in AI and its practical applications. For example, our students developed a face recognition system to monitor unauthorised entries at school, integrating real-life problems into their projects. This hands-on approach helps them understand the relevance of AI in everyday life.

What training and support do teachers receive to adapt to new technologies?
We conduct regular workshops to train teachers on new technologies like Moodle and smart boards. These sessions cover the basics of using these tools, from logging in to updating content. By equipping teachers with these skills, we ensure that they can effectively integrate technology into their teaching methods.
How do you keep yourself updated with technological advancements?
I stay updated through various online courses and resources. Continuous learning is essential in the ever-evolving field of IT, especially in AI. By keeping abreast of the latest developments, I can incorporate new knowledge into our programmes and ensure that our students receive the most current information.
What personal impact has working at Apeejay Schools had on you?
Working at Apeejay has been a transformative experience. It feels like a second home; my wife works here, and both my children are students at Apeejay. The school has not only given me a platform to grow professionally but also integrated my family into its community. My journey with Apeejay has been immensely rewarding and fulfilling.
