Transitioning from Class X to XI can be tricky — some view it as a breather, others prefer staying focused. Maintaining momentum with consistent effort leads to stronger academic outcomes. Meet three students – Ishita Adya (95%), Rishit Srivastava (92%), and Kartikeya Agarwal (91%) – students of Apeejay School, Noida, who proved that consistency is the key to success
Ishita, who is pursuing Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, modestly shared that there’s no real secret to her success. “All three main subjects require a lot of practice, so solving questions was my top priority. For Chemistry, I focused a lot on NCERT because it’s packed with information. Teacher’s notes were also incredibly helpful, as they provided concise and precise content,” the Class XII student said.
And while the transition from Class X to XI is challenging and there’s a steep learning curve, one can follow a strategy. “The first few chapters build up the basics, but later the difficulty increases. The key is to not lose hope. Topics may seem difficult at first, but if you pay attention in class, clear your doubts promptly, and keep practising, they become manageable,” she stated.
Rishit said that the greatest challenge for him was the sudden jump in the amount of syllabus. “In Class X, there were around 15 chapters in Science. But in Class XI, both Physics and Chemistry have 10–12 chapters each, which felt overwhelming at first. Physics interests me, so I didn’t feel burdened,” he said.
His approach was simple. “I studied consistently throughout the year. I kept practising the chapters that were going on in class, so I didn’t feel any pressure during the exams. It wasn’t just about studying in the last six months — I made sure to stay regular. Furthermore, the way teachers start teaching in Class XI helps. They begin with the basics, understanding that students are new to the subjects. Even those who struggled with science or math in Class X can catch up because of the way concepts are explained,” the Class XII student shared.
For Kartikeya, the transition was not so challenging since he had been preparing for JEE since Class X. “However, generally, Class XI is quite different and more challenging. I had a simple strategy. I studied for the JEE six days a week and dedicated Sundays to prepare for school. That was my way of balancing JEE preparation and school studies. Furthermore, the Physics and Chemistry teachers were extremely supportive. They would clear my doubts even during the lunch break. I would often approach them with questions, and they were always ready to help. Without their support, I wouldn’t have scored so well,” he stated.
