The colourful festivals of Navratri and Dussehra were recently celebrated at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Model Town, Jalandhar with a lot of fun. Activities with creative skills and cultural learning were planned to introduce the little ones to deeply rooted traditions and values that go with these festivals. The school ensured that each activity not only provided entertainment but also learning, making it a joyful day for the young learners.
The coconut laddu-making session began the celebration. The tiny tots rolled up their sleeves and dived into the world of traditional Indian sweets. The teachers helped the toddlers prepare these. This hands-on activity, not only increased their knowledge but also their interest in Indian cuisine.
Creative Expression: Goddess Durga Craft Activity
A highlight of the celebrations was making Goddess Durga out of craft material. The kids used origami paper and matchsticks to build exquisite creations of the Goddess. During this activity, the students exercised their creative talent and dexterity too. And the look on their faces as they held their colourful creations with careful hands was truly heartwarming.
According to Sonali Pusri, Pre-primary teacher at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Model Town, Jalandhar, celebrating festivals in Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld is not just about enjoyment. “It is about planting seeds of cultural understanding and togetherness in young minds. Through simple activities, songs, and stories, toddlers begin to learn the values of sharing, gratitude, and diversity, shaping their social and emotional growth,” the educator shared.

Garba and dandiya fun
No Navratri celebration is complete without Garba and dandiya. The young dancers twirled and clapped to traditional Navratri songs attired in colourful attire. Through this, they learnt about the cultural significance of these folk dances.

The puppet show narrated the story of Dussehra. The lively presentation depicted how Lord Ram outwitted Ravan much to the delight of the little learners. After the puppet show, the toddlers decorated their miniature Ravan effigies as well.
Another highlight of the celebration was the burning of the Ravan effigy. The children watched in awe as the effigy was set aflame, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. This visual feat left a lasting impact on the kids that reinforced the values of honesty, and the importance of making the right choices.

Overall, the Navratri and Dussehra celebrations at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld brought together knowledge and enjoyment. It was a day filled with creative and cultural learning that left a lasting impression on the toddlers and teachers alike.
