Nestled in the Allagadda mandal of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, Ahobilam is a town renowned for its spiritual significance and stunning natural beauty. Surrounded by the picturesque hills of the Eastern Ghats, this sacred site offers a unique blend of serene landscapes and deep-rooted religious heritage, making it a must-visit for devotees and nature enthusiasts alike.

Ahobilam is a revered center of worship dedicated to Narasimha, the lion-headed avatar of Lord Vishnu. This holy town is home to nine ancient temples, each dedicated to a distinct form of Narasimha, collectively known as the Nava Narasimha Kshetra. These temples are scattered within a 5 km radius from the main temple, offering a spiritual journey through dense Nallamala Forest.
The nine forms of Lord Narasimha worshipped here are Jwala Narasimha, Ahobila Narasimha, Malola Narasimha, Kroda Narasimha, Kaaranja Narasimha, Bhargava Narasimha, Yaogananda Narasimha, Chathravata Narasimha, and Paavana Narasimha. While some temples are easily accessible, others require arduous treks through thick forests and rugged terrain, adding an element of adventure to this spiritual pilgrimage.
According to legend, Ahobilam is the sacred site where Lord Vishnu, in the form of Narasimha, vanquished the demon Hiranyakashipu to protect his devout follower Prahlada. It is believed that Narasimha emerged from a rock pillar to slay the demon, a moment immortalized in the idols and murtis found throughout the temples. The story further narrates that Garuda, the divine eagle, prayed for a vision of Narasimha and was granted his wish with Narasimha manifesting in nine distinct forms across the hills of Ahobilam.
Visiting Ahobilam is not just a spiritual journey but also an exploration of natural beauty. The dense forests, rocky paths, and tranquil surroundings provide a perfect backdrop for meditation and introspection. Each trek to the temples offers breathtaking views and a deep sense of connection with nature and divinity.

Ahobilam stands out as one of the 108 Divya Desams, which are the holiest shrines for Vaishnavites. The town’s rich legends and historical significance attract thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year. The experience of trekking through the lush forests, discovering ancient temples, and immersing oneself in the sacred atmosphere of Ahobilam is truly unparalleled.
In conclusion, Ahobilam offers a unique confluence of spirituality, history, and natural beauty. Whether you are a devotee seeking divine blessings or an adventurer looking to explore the serene landscapes of the Eastern Ghats, Ahobilam promises an unforgettable experience that touches the soul and invigorates the spirit.
