
Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) in Jalandhar, celebrated International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm and zeal. This year’s theme “Yoga for Self and Society”, encapsulated the holistic impact of yoga on individuals and communities by emphasising the multifaceted benefits that extend beyond personal well-being to encompass societal harmony and collective health.
The event aimed to acquaint students and faculty with the immense benefits of yoga, promoting self-awareness, emotional stability, and inner peace, leading to a more fulfilling and balanced life.
The celebrations commenced with an address by Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC. Dr. Bagga underscored the invaluable benefits of practicing yoga, highlighting its role in fostering an increased sense of well-being and its addictive nature due to the positive effects it brings. He emphasized that yoga unites the body, mind, and breath, offering benefits beyond physical fitness. Dr. Bagga highlighted the importance of the 10th International Yoga Day being celebrated globally, noting yoga’s ability to help individuals manage stress better, improve concentration, and build resilience, thereby enhancing overall quality of life.
Dr. Bagga further emphasised that when families practice yoga together, it strengthens their bonds and promotes mutual respect and understanding. At the societal level, widespread practice of yoga can lead to a healthier, more mindful, and cohesive community. It encourages a culture of wellness and compassion, where people are more attuned to their own needs and the needs of others.
The yoga session aimed to share the transformative power of yoga, emphasisng its ability to awaken and heal both mind and body. The session included demonstrations and teachings of various yoga asanas, highlighting their benefits for physical and mental health. Students were introduced to Pranayama techniques and stretching exercises designed to alleviate issues such as stress, depression, backaches, exhaustion, cervical pain, and obesity. Specific asanas demonstrated included the Tree Pose, Mountain Pose, Crescent Moon Pose (Anjaneyasana), Half-Boat Posture (Ardha Navasana), Child’s Pose, Arm-Pressing Posture, Cat Pose, Downward Facing Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Svanasana), and Lotus Pose (Padmasana).
Dr. Bagga also discussed the concepts of alkaline and acidic bodies, explaining that a slightly alkaline blood pH is indicative of good health. He highlighted the role of yoga and healthy eating habits in maintaining an alkaline body, which supports the immune system and prevents disease. He recommended incorporating apple cider vinegar, lemon, honey, and ginger, along with pranayama and yoga, to maintain an alkaline body.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Bagga emphasised that incorporating yoga into daily life is a significant step towards achieving a balanced and healthy lifestyle, contributing to the common goal of building a humanitarian society.
Similarly, Jalandhar’s Apeejay College of Fine Arts in collaboration with NSS and NCC wings, celebrated this day with much fun and fervour.
On the occasion, Dr. Vinod Kumar, a yoga expert and Principal of B.Ed College Dayalpur, Kapurthala and President of Yoga Path Sanasthan, along with his wife Mrs. Anu was present. Dr. Vinod has been serving in the field of yoga for the last 30 years. He urged the faculty and the students “to make yoga the basis of their lives to live a healthy and satisfied life.”
Expressing her views in the same context, Mrs. Anu said, “Yoga not only helps a person to attain physical fitness but also strengthens a person’s emotional aspect of life.” She further said that a person who walks on the basis of yoga would never feel emotionally weak again.
Dr. Vinod introduced everyone to the techniques of performing various yoga asanas effectively and laid special emphasis on the health benefits that the asanas offer.
Finally, while expressing her views on the occasion of Yoga Day, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal at ACFA mentioned, “If we take out even half an hour for yoga in our personal lives daily, our professional lives will also progress successfully.” She further appreciated the efforts of Dr. Simkee Dev of NSS Wing and Madam Komal, Incharge of NCC Wing, for successfully conducting the Yoga Day event.
Yoga expert Dr. Vinod Kumar, along with his wife Mrs. Anu, conducted the session, encouraging faculty and students to make yoga a part of their daily lives. Dr. Vinod demonstrated various yoga asanas, emphasising their health benefits, while Mrs. Anu highlighted yoga’s role in strengthening emotional well-being. Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra concluded the event by stressing the importance of dedicating even a small part of daily life to yoga for professional and personal success, appreciating the efforts of the NSS and NCC wings for organising the event.
