Mental health sessions for college students are crucial, providing a safe space to address stress, anxiety, and other challenges. These sessions foster awareness, reduce stigma, and equip students with coping strategies. Prioritising mental well-being contributes to a positive campus environment, enhancing academic performance and personal growth. It ensures students feel supported, promoting holistic development and resilience as they navigate the complexities of college life.

With an aim to further raise awareness  about mental health among youth, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar recently hosted a 2-day Psychology Fiesta. Aligned with the institution’s commitment to holistic student growth, the event reflected the principles set by the late Founder Chairman Dr. Stya Paul Ji.

The first day featured engaging activities, including a psychology quiz, a poster-making competition on mental health topics, and an open mic competition. Students exhibited great enthusiasm, emphasising the importance of mental health awareness.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, highlighted the prevalence of stress and depression among youth in the current information-centric and competitive era. She highlighted, “There is a necessity to educate youths about mental health.”

The second day focused on psychological testing, with Vanshika Sharma, a BA 4th semester psychology student, conducting tests related to anxiety, life satisfaction, depression, stress, and personality. Other students including Himani, Gurusahib Singh, Dikhsha, and Kritigya enthusiastically participated.

Further, Counselling Psychologist Ms. Suhani and Psychologist Tanveer Singh provided valuable insights and counseling, encouraging students to adopt a positive approach to life.

The two-day fiesta also featured art therapy, grapho therapy, meditation, psychological games, and photo booths, offering both entertainment and education.

In the poster-making competition, Kritika, Grace Arora, and Gurusimran secured the top three positions. Ritika Sharma, Diya Ahuja, Bhumika, and Diya Talwar excelled in the open mic competition. The quiz competition winners were the teams of Krutya, Hardil, Deeksha (1st), Bhumika, Sandeep, Piyush (2nd), and Anureet, Vanshik, Vani (3rd).

In the end, Dr Dhingra acknowledged the winning students, presenting them with certificates. She also commended Ms. Harpreet Kaur and Ms. Niharika from the Department of Psychology for successfully organising the Psyche Fiesta.
