Creativity, curiosity, and a love for storytelling define Snigdha Nigam, a journalism graduate from Apeejay Stya University (ASU) , Gurugram. Passionate about exploring the world of media and social content, Snigdha from the batch of 2019–2023 has always been drawn to expressing ideas through innovative and artistic means. When she’s not working, she loves designing, experimenting with creative projects, and travelling to new places—anything that fuels her imagination and keeps her inspired.

Reflecting on her academic journey, the alumna describes her years at Apeejay Stya University as truly transformative. “I joined as a quiet, shy girl who would hesitate to speak even during class presentations,” she recalls. “But over time, I grew into someone who could confidently present my final-year project before everyone.” She credits this remarkable transformation to the nurturing environment, supportive faculty, and close-knit friendships that shaped her college experience. Read edited excerpts of her interview:

What inspired you to pursue a course in journalism? How did the faculty at Apeejay help you build skills to take up a role in social media?

I’ve always loved expressing ideas through words and visuals, and journalism felt like the perfect course to channel that passion. It gave me a foundation in communication, research, and storytelling, all of which are so essential in today’s digital world.

The faculty at Apeejay played a huge role in shaping my professional skills. They encouraged us to think creatively, explore new mediums, and always keep up with trends. Whether it was through classroom discussions, projects, assignments, their constant support helped me develop the confidence and curiosity that later became so useful when I entered the social media space.

Share your best memories from Apeejay as a journalism student.

There are so many, honestly! From working on group projects late into the night to those last-minute assignment panics that always ended in laughter, every bit of it is special. But if I had to pick, it would be the moments of growth I experienced with my friends and professors. The kind of bond we shared, where professors were not just teachers but mentors and motivators, this is something I’ll always cherish.

Can you tell us about your role as a social media manager in your previous company and which brands you handled?

As a Social Media Manager, I handled a range of brands across different niches, from F&B, SaaS solutions, cleaning supply brands, fashion labels, and even a tea brand. My role involved everything from ideating campaigns and creating content strategies to managing brand presence across platforms. I also worked closely on content creation, ensuring every post aligned with the brand’s tone and connected with its audience.

What were the key challenges you faced while managing multiple high-profile brands?

The biggest challenge was balancing creativity with consistency. Every brand had a unique voice and identity, so I had to constantly switch gears while maintaining quality and engagement. Managing tight deadlines, aligning with multiple teams, and staying ahead of trends was definitely challenging, but also extremely rewarding. It taught me a lot about time management, adaptability, and creative problem-solving.

What motivated you to join your father’s business?

After gaining solid experience in the corporate world, I wanted to explore how I could use my skills to contribute to something more personal and long-term. My father runs an IT solutions company called Giganetix Technology Consulting, and I saw a great opportunity to combine my digital media background with the business side of things. It felt like a natural next step, to grow, learn, and help expand the company’s presence in new ways.

How has your role changed since moving from a corporate setup to a family business?

It’s been a big shift, but in a good way. In a family business, you get to wear multiple hats, you’re involved in everything from strategy and marketing to client relations and decision-making. It’s made me more independent and proactive. The sense of ownership is much stronger here, and I’m learning something new every single day.
