She had lived all her life in Jalandhar. Hence, it is not surprising that she has had her schooling and college at Apeejay Education. Meet Pratibha Ghai, an alumna of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, and Apeejay College of Fine Arts. All her siblings also studied here, and they all had a great academic experience and are well-placed professionally. What is even more interesting is that today, her children are studying at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg.

In a candid interview, she talks about how the values learnt at school have shaped her life.

What is your most cherished memory from school?

I was shy in school, but I had a good circle of friends and supportive teachers. My Social Studies teacher helped me improve in the subject. Although she is no longer there, some old teachers are still teaching, and it feels good to know that they will also be teaching my kids. One memorable achievement was scoring 98% in Punjabi in class VIII, which earned me a prize.

What values did the school teach you that impacted your life?

The school taught us punctuality and discipline. We were always expected to be on time, wear neat uniforms, and follow healthy eating habits — junk food was not allowed! And it is still not allowed, which is heartening to know!

Working in a government department requires collaboration and punctuality, which I practiced regularly during my school days. Participating in team sports and group activities at school has helped me manage projects efficiently at work

Were you involved in extracurricular activities at school?

Yes, I participated in plays, poem recitations, debates, and morning assemblies. I also took part in music events, especially during annual functions.

You pursued BCom at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA). Why did you choose this institute?

Everyone in Jalandhar knows that if you want quality education, you choose Apeejay Education. Studying at ACFA was a natural progression. I already knew the teachers were excellent. Also, the institute was closer to home. Choosing ACFA felt natural since our expectations from Apeejay Education were already high.

How does it feel to send your kids to the same school?

It feels wonderful. I go daily to pick them up and drop them off. Many of the teachers and even security guards still recognise me. It adds a sense of safety and familiarity.

What changes have you observed in the school over the years?

The school has become friendlier. Earlier, teachers were stricter, but now they encourage students in a supportive manner. My daughter Anaaya, who is in LKG, is very fond of her teachers.

What do you appreciate most about the school as both a student and a parent?

The school management has always been good. The teachers have been supportive, and the current environment is very interactive and secure. The Principal personally greets students and parents, making everyone feel valued. My elder daughter Paavni still visits her former Primary teachers, which shows how much she cherishes her school experience.

What are some of the things that have improved?

The school balances academics and extracurricular activities well, ensuring that children are not overburdened. They get enough time for studies and fun, which is essential. I also appreciate how teachers encouraged me despite my shyness, boosting my confidence. What is even better is that today, the school ensures that all students participate in all the school functions. This inclusivity boosts the morale of the students and helps them to do even better.
