Ankita is a passionate and creative student pursuing her Bachelor’s in Fashion Design at Apeejay Institute of Design (AID). From a young age, Ankita has been fascinated by the world of fashion — sketching outfits, experimenting with colours, and observing how style can express individuality. Her inspiration to enter this field stems from the belief that clothes are more than fabric — they are stories woven with emotion, culture, and personality. During her foundation year, Ankita gained a deeper understanding of design fundamentals, principles, and professional techniques. The experience has refined her artistic vision and strengthened her resolve to create designs that empower people to feel confident, expressive, and unique through the language of fashion. Read edited excerpts of this interview:

Which aspect of fashion design do you enjoy the most?

The aspect of fashion design I enjoy the most is fashion illustration. I like creating different design patterns and sketches because it helps me bring my ideas to life on paper. I enjoy experimenting with colours and silhouettes, and it’s satisfying to see my imagination take shape through drawing.

What made you choose Apeejay Institute of Design? How are the teachers shaping your skills?

I chose Apeejay Institute of Design because I had heard so many good reviews  about the college and its teaching style. I was especially drawn to their focus on practical, hands-on learning, which lets us experiment, create, and really learn by doing, instead of just reading theory. The teachers here are also really supportive and encouraging. They push us to think outside the box, try new ideas, and improve our technical skills. Their guidance not only helps us get better at our craft but also gives us the confidence to develop our own style and express our creativity through our designs.

Can you share a memorable classroom project or assignment that challenged your creativity or taught you something new?

Talking about a memorable yet challenging assignment that not only challenged our creativity but also made us think beyond the box was when we were asked  to manually design a wrapping paper taking inspiration from unusual pictures that we clicked of line, shape n form found in our  college campus.this assignment not only  made us understand how in actual design are created but also how observation and experiment  plays a major role in the design making process.

Who is your inspiration in fashion design?

It’s not like I follow a single designer, I think every designer fascinates and inspires me. But the person whose work inspires me the most is Tarun Tahiliani. I love how he blends traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern styles, and his attention to detail motivates me to create designs that feel personal and meaningful.
