‘Interminal Lockup’: Poem by Dhruvika Jain, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar

Travelling the world, I never wanted to sail to the journey of lockup
A lockup where my liberty is taken and my freedom is broken.
In times of lockdown, when freedom is sparse,
The importance of liberty, we painfully parse,
Not just for humans but for creatures too,
Who roam this earth with rights, just like me and you
For birds in the skies and beasts on land,
Freedom is vital, for them to understand,
Their purpose and essence, in this world of ours,
Is to live and breathe free, amidst nature’s powers.
The caged birds sing, a sad melody of woes,
Their wings clipped, they flutter in despair, you know,
Their right to fly taken in the name of captivity,
A life of confinement, filled with uncertainty.

The wild beasts, who roam in forests vast,
Now feel the pinch of lockdown, unsurpassed,
Their territories shrinking, their food scarce
They bear the brunt of human’s callousness with grace.
But we can make amends, for the wrongs of the past
And ensure that all creature’s freedom shall last

For liberty is not just a value for us, as human beings
But a fundamental right for all, amidst nature’s blessings
For all creatures great and small,

Freedom and liberty is same for all
