Recently, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, organised a vibrant ‘Subject Enrichment Activity’ for students of UKG. The focus of the session was to enhance students’ English writing skills through a fun and interactive approach. Designed to reinforce cursive writing, vocabulary building, and motor development, the activity turned out to be both educational and enjoyable for the little learners.
The session began with the introduction of the cursive letter ‘c’. The young learners were guided on how to form the letter correctly, following proper strokes and maintaining alignment on the lines. With their eyes wide open and hands ready, each child took a turn to write on the board, practising what they had just learnt. The activity was carefully supervised by the teachers, who patiently demonstrated and encouraged the students at every step.
This hands-on practice helped in developing correct writing habits and gave the children a sense of confidence in their ability to learn something new.
Creative impressions leave a lasting impact
To further strengthen the association with the letter ‘c’, the students were engaged in a creative art activity using thumb and finger impressions. With child-safe paints and eager hands, the young ones turned their prints into adorable cats, a word that begins with the letter ‘c’. They added details such as eyes, whiskers, and tails to complete their artwork.
This integration of art with language learning helped the students associate letters with words, sounds, and visuals, thereby making the learning process more effective and fun.
The activity was designed with a dual purpose — to enhance fine motor skills and build vocabulary. By using their fingers to create art and their hands to write on the board, children engaged in physical movement that is essential at this early stage of development. Moreover, connecting the letter with an image and a word allowed for better retention and concept clarity.

Teachers observed that the students showed great enthusiasm and actively participated throughout the session. The smiles on their faces and the colourful cats they took home were a testament to a lesson well learnt.
At Apeejay School, such activities are regularly conducted to promote interactive and child-centric learning. The school remains committed to offering a nurturing environment where education is a joyful experience.
