Inter-school quiz celebrates freedom and knowledge

Nurturing patriotism and pride through the Dr Stya Paul Memorial Quiz competition at Apeejay School, Nerul

Schools nowadays go far beyond just academics. They strive to provide holistic education to students which is, organising different events for them to learn and grow. For the same, Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, established in 1986 under the aegis of Apeejay Education, New Delhi, recently organised the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Memorial Indian Freedom Movement Inter-school Quiz Competition 2024. 

The event was held in honour of Indian freedom fighters and as a tribute to Dr Stya Paul, the school’s Founder-Chairman, whose contributions to India’s freedom struggle and the field of education remain exemplary.

Dr Stya Paul was a visionary educationist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and passionate freedom fighter. His unwavering commitment to India’s independence led to his imprisonment, reflecting his dedication to the cause. The event celebrated his contributions, serving as a platform to educate and inspire students about the significance of freedom, the power of knowledge, and visionary leadership in shaping a nation’s future. His legacy continues under the guidance of his daughter, Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education, who has furthered her father’s vision in both education and industry.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Rtd Commander Dharam Veer Singh Verma, who, in his address, emphasised the importance of knowledge, patriotism, and general awareness in the lives of students.

The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolising the light of knowledge and freedom that guided India’s national heroes. Nineteen schools from across the Mumbai region participated, bringing together young minds to explore and celebrate India’s rich history and struggle for independence.

The competition featured a range of engaging rounds, including an audio-visual segment, rapid-fire questions, and a buzzer round, all meticulously conducted by Quiz Master Mr P Subhash, Principal of Apeejay School, Nerul. The quiz covered various aspects of India’s fight for independence, such as the First War of Independence, the Indian Freedom Movement, notable freedom fighters, significant events, and the Indian Constitution. A special round dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel offered deeper insights into the period.

After intense competition, DAV School, Nerul emerged as the winner, claiming the Dr Stya Paul Memorial Rolling Trophy. Don Bosco School, Nerul, and Amity International School, Belapur, secured the second and third positions, respectively. All winning teams received certificates, individual shields, and trophies.

The quiz competition was a fitting tribute to Dr Stya Paul’s legacy, inspiring participants and fostering a sense of pride and patriotism among all present.
