Conquering the skies was always my dream, a goal I was clear about from the very beginning. Growing up in a family where service to the nation was a legacy, my desire to follow the same path was deeply ingrained. My grandfather, S. Balbir Singh, and my father, S. Pargat Singh, both served in the Indian Air Force at officer rank for many years, instilling in me a sense of pride and responsibility toward the nation.
Being raised in such an environment, I was naturally inclined to pursue a career in the Air Force. In 2007, I prepared for the Short Service Commission (SSC) exam and proudly cleared the toughest of selections – the SSB board at Varanasi, under 4 AFSB/1001/2/123GDOC/32SSC(W)16SSC(M)/PS. It was one of my proudest moments, knowing I had succeeded in one of the most challenging exams. However, circumstances were different back then. Career awareness was limited, and I decided to pursue a career in education instead of the Air Force, despite clearing the selection.
Today, things have changed for the better. The awareness among students and parents regarding career options is far greater, with numerous opportunities available for those who wish to join the Indian Air Force. For anyone with a passion for serving the country, I say – go for it! The Indian Air Force offers not just a career but a way of life, filled with pride, honor, and an unshakable commitment to the nation.
