India will host global summit on responsible AI development tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s hosting of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit from December 12-14, 2023. Comprised of 28 nations and the European Union, GPAI collaborates to address the challenges and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) while advocating for its responsible development.

Expressing India’s approach, PM Modi emphasised fostering a universal understanding and conducive environment to steer AI usage for the betterment of humanity. As a co-founder of GPAI, India plays a pivotal role in guiding the responsible evolution of AI, involving 28 member countries and the EU.

Having assumed the Chair of GPAI in November 2022 after France, India, in contrast to China, underscores its commitment to leveraging technology, particularly AI, for the welfare of people. PM Modi reiterated the dedication to establish a regulatory framework ensuring Safe and Trusted AI, with a focus on facilitating widespread and enduring implementation across nations.

The upcoming summit is expected to feature insights from numerous AI experts, including representatives from prominent companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. Alongside discussions, the event will host an AI Expo featuring the participation of 150 start-ups.
