On Friday (August 4, 2023), the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of Nepal joined hands to sign four crucial Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at implementing developmental projects supported by India’s grant assistance.

These projects encompass various sectors, with a particular focus on education and water supply and sanitation. Three of the projects are dedicated to enhancing the education sector, while the remaining project is dedicated to improving water supply and sanitation infrastructure. The combined estimated cost for all four projects is Nepali Rs 170 million.

As per an official statement, India has undertaken 546 High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Nepal since 2003. These projects cover various essential sectors like health, education, drinking water, connectivity, sanitation, and the creation of public utilities.

Spanning across all seven provinces of Nepal, 483 projects have already been completed, while the remaining 63 projects are currently under implementation. Most of these projects are executed through the involvement of local authorities of the Nepali Government.

The signing of these MoUs represents a significant step forward in fostering cooperation and mutual development between India and Nepal. It further strengthens the longstanding ties and collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
